Worldviews: How God Sees It
Ethics
Titus 2:7-14

  •  Ethics includes the study of moral conduct, what is right and wrong, and where those determinations come from.

Points of the Passage:
1.      "Good" is referenced three times. 7, 10, and 14
2.      Modeling good works pleases God. 9
3.      Showing good faith puts Jesus on display. 10
4.      Being passionate about good works is a testimony of salvation. 14

Morality is a set of jars in which we keep slips of paper recording right and wrong actions, thoughts, and beliefs. Ethics is the study of how and where we got the jars and who sorts the actions, thoughts, and beliefs into them.

  • Teleological ethics is the study of morality with only the concern of how things will turn out.
  • Deontological ethics is the view that we are bound by duty to do what is right simply because it is the right thing to do.

Which worldview gives the best explanation for moral living?

  • Muslims believe in ethics coming from a god with no mercy.
  • Secularists base their ethics only on keeping humans alive on the earth.
  • Marxists base their ethics only on the reconstruction of the economic system.
  • Postmodernists base their ethics on what is best for each community despite what they might do to another community.
  • New-age spiritualists base their ethics on individualized truth that sets no standard and does not consider the morality of another.
  • Christianity is the only worldview that sees our ethics coming from someone greater and better than us and encourages us to live by morals compelled by love.
